TRANSPARENT DRESSINGS / TRANSPARENT FILM DRESSINGS
A transparent dressing is a clear film dressing, featuring an adhesive border, and is most often made from polyurethane, which is usually waterproof. Transparent dressings prevent the wound from coming into contact with fluid or bacteria, although they allow oxygen in so that the wound can heal. Adherent film dressings are sometimes referred to as semi-permeable dressings, since they are permeable to oxygen carbon dioxide and water vapor, but are occlusive to other substances.
There are transparent occlusive film dressings, but those are much less commonly used than the regular semipermeable transparent adhesive film dressings.
